VBS + Construction Day 2, Lake Excursion
Today was the second day of VBS. It was wonderful to see all the kids show up again, and some brought a friend! It was such a blessing to see the kids really enjoying themselves and being very into the activities and songs. We have seen a couple of the kids just around the town and they've said hi to us and have been very excited! All of the kids wanted to take pictures with those in the skit and we had many parents tell us they would like us to do more events like this. God is most definitely at work in this community, be praying for them!
The construction team continued faithfully working hard on the fence for that church. We learned that it is a very small church, only eight members and they are all widows. Please be praying for them, and pray that we are able to be a blessing and encouragement to them!
In the afternoon, we were able to drive up the mountain to get a beautiful view, and then to see this really cool lake! You might see in the above picture that the lake looks really small, but it isn't! We are standing on top of the lake! Over many years, moss has grown over the top of the lake, and all that is left of visible surface water is a small pond about 20 yards in diameter. The moss is 24ft deep, so you can walk on the water!
Prayer Requests:
- Pray for the VBS in Sighet, we do the same thing but in the nearby bigger city. Pray for the kids hearts that they would be attentive to the memory verse and the gospel message!
- Pray for the construction team, they have a large project and a lot of work still ahead of them. Continue to pray for safety and health as well.
- Pray for the eyeglass clinic. We begin the eyeglass clinic in Sighet tomorrow. Pray for team unity and pray that there would be great opportunities to share the gospel with each person who comes into the clinic!
- Pray for the small church that the construction team is serving.

Question of the day for the team: "What was a highlight from today?"
Mary Masterson: "For me is watching everyone singing and following the gestures of the songs. I especially saw one boy pose as Spider-Man. The songs were fun to do while teaching that the value of Jesus."
Florica Bigu: "Monday - Today was a special day at the orphanage!
Members from the Baptist Church of Ocna Șugatag, together with friends from a church in the United States, came with open hearts and joyful spirits to spend time with the children. They shared laughter and joy through crafts, songs, puzzles, and games—and more importantly, through genuine conversations and caring presence. This visit was more than just a fun day; it was an expression of love from two churches united by their desire to reflect Christ’s love for people and for His precious creation. Their time together reminded us that when we love others, we are living out God’s heart in a beautiful way."
Vera Wong: "The highlight of my day was getting hugs from the kids who returned for the second day of VBS! I loved how free they were with their affection and so excited to learn about Jesus. Praise God that they heard the gospel many times during it."
Alex Bigu: "We continued fence repairs at the small church today and made good progress. There’s still a lot to do, so we’re praying we can finish by week’s end. Today we also got to know more about the church. One middle aged lady brought us homemade pastries and shared that the entire congregation is made up of just eight widows, most living on about $30 a month. Another 83-year-old widow, barely walking with a walker, made the long journey on foot just to thank us and tell us she’s praying for us. Despite their hardships, these women radiate joy in Christ and faith in God’s provision. It’s been humbling and beautiful to witness firsthand how, even in poverty, God’s faithfulness shines. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Praise be to Him!"
John Mar: "A highlight for me from today (6/24) was the view we got “climbing up” the path to an awesome viewpoint. We saw the cities in our area. It reminded me that there are a lot of people who need to hear the good news."
Jim Yamashita: "A highlight for me from today (6/24) was the view we got “climbing up” the path to an awesome viewpoint. We saw the cities in our area. It reminded me that there are a lot of people who need to hear the good news."
Gianna Chau: "A highlight for me from today (6/24) was the view we got “climbing up” the path to an awesome viewpoint. We saw the cities in our area. It reminded me that there are a lot of people who need to hear the good news."
Teresa Chau: "I was able to see the joy from the kids as they sang songs and learned God’s Word. Pray that VBS song and the skits will bring them a good memory that Jesus touch their hearts. I was glad to reach out a teenage boy who brought his younger brother to the VBS but stayed outside himself. He was struggling with anxiety. I shared the gospel with him and invited him to church. He was willing to listen and even agreed to go to church! Praise God!!"
Mark Pratt: "There was one kid at the VBS named Andrei and he told me he learned English on his own at 6 years old. He gave me a hug at the end and told me he really wants me to come back next year. It is amazing to see how much impact our team has had with the people here."
Brianne Pratt: "Today at VBS I asked a small group of kids if they went to church. They said they were Catholic and Orthodox. I asked them if they learned something new and they all said prayer. After discussing how you don’t need a priest and you don’t need pre-written prayers, they said they were open to trying Christian prayer, so I got to pray with them today!"
Thank you for taking the time to read our updates!
