Worship Service Sunday

Today was a wonderful day of worshipping and fellowship! We began the day with a service at the church here in Ocna Şugatag, called Biserica Creştina Baptista. It was wonderful to intermix our team with theirs to create the service. John Mar did the Call to Prayer. Brianne, Paul, Gianna, and the local pastors daughter played some worship songs. Pastor Tom did the sermon. Alex translated everything from Romanian to English and vice-versa.

We had a break for some lunch where we surprised Carole Bell with a birthday cake and songs, today was her birthday! It was also Teresa Chau's birthday on the day we flew here, June 19th. We were able to sing happy birthday to both of them!

We then had a second worship service in a city about 30 minutes north called Sighetu Marmației. This church was a little larger than the one in Ocna, and we were able to do the same things within this worship service as well, which was wonderful!

After this service, we met and had dinner with all of our translators. We really enjoyed getting to meet everyone and started creating friendships! We went to the local park in Sighet and handed out more fliers for the VBS and for the Eyeglass Clinic.

Tomorrow we are going full throttle with VBS and construction in the morning, and then Orphan Care and more construction in the afternoon.

Prayer Requests:
- Pray for the ministries tomorrow. Be praying for the hearts of those we come in contact with, that they would be open to hearing the message of the Gospel
- Pray for a good turnout for VBS. We handed out fliers, but we don't really know what to expect
- Pray for the construction crew, pray for safety during the projects
- Pray for the orphan care ministry, pray that the orphans would enjoy the time we are spending with them, and that the love of God would be on full display!

Here is what the team members said was their favorite part of today:

Carole Bell:
- "Two of my highlights were worshipping with Romanian believers and hearing Tom preach. The second highlight was celebrating my birthday with our team and other new Romanian friends as well as enjoying a homemade Romanian birthday cake and hearing the happy birthday song in Romanian. What a special time that was. Carole"

Alex Bigu:
- "For me, I enjoyed meeting brothers and sisters at the Church in Sighet. Their love and happiness in hosting us was tangible. I was also glad to see pastor Dan’s winsomeness in action at the park, and it was encouraging to see our team share flyers and invitations with people."

Teresa Chau:
- "It is beautiful to hear worship in Romania language, and hear the congregation pray out lound during service.
Glad to know many new friends at church today."

Gianna Chau:
- "
My favorite was listening to the worship songs in Romanian. It was amazing to hear people with different languages all praising God (and also worship sessions are already the best 🤌)."

Paul Lim:
- "My favorite thing about today was learning some Romanian. I learned how to say "take one, please", which was "poftin" in Romanian, and used it when handing out VBS flyers. However, I misused the phrase and said "pofta", which means "eat it", which gave Timmy, my Romanian teacher, a good laugh."

John Mar:
- "This was a great worship day - once with church at Ocna Sugatag and then in Sighet. Being with other brothers and sisters in Christ worshipping and then planning gospel activities was wonderful. Everyone at the Romanian church was super gracious and wonderful to work alongside. So warm and hospitable."

Dave Miyatake:
- "my favorite part of today was going to the park to hand out flyers, got to talk to a lot of people who spoke English and got to meet some of the interpreters also."

Brianne Pratt:
- "Worship was my favorite part of today! It was so powerful to hear everyone singing to the Lord together in English and Romanian"

Mark Pratt:
- "Today I loved getting to worship with everyone here. I love learning languages and getting to sing in Romanian was very cool! Also everyone at the church thought Brianne was Romanian because she sang one of the songs so well in Romanian"

Vera Wong:
- "I really enjoyed hearing “Christ Our Hope In Life and Death” sung in both Romanian and English at the same time. It was moving and powerful to experience the blend of languages in such a meaningful song."

Jim Yamashita:
- "I enjoyed worshipping & fellowship with the local churches in Ocna & Sighet. But I especially enjoyed Brianne & Paul singing in Romanian.  They did a great job!"

Thank you for reading! We are looking forward to our big day tomorrow!
