Ocna Day 2, Sat 6/28

 

    

    Today we are still in Ocna. We held the second day of the glasses clinic at the church. We saw many more patients, gave out many more eyeglasses, and shared the gospel with many more people. Yesterday we shared that we helped a widow who said she can no longer read her Bible because she can't see the letters. We were able to transport her to the clinic and get her a pair of glasses so she can read her Bible! She seemed very excited. Praise God! We invited many people to come to church tomorrow, so pray that they would come!

    Pastor Tom held a pastors conference and he and Carole held a parenting conference. Jim and Dave tacked on behind them with the medical conference. They had a decent turnout, so praise God!

    While we were doing the eyeglass clinic, those who were not involved got to visit a nearby elderly care hospital and give some care packages and visit with the residents.

    The afternoon was open for some sight-seeing, and  a group went to a nearby monastery called Barsana Monastery (pictured above). 

    We are winding down the trip, tomorrow we have three church services to attend, where we are singing some worship songs and the Pastor Tom is giving the sermon. It just so happens that we are here during the 10 year anniversary of this church! We are giving them a plaque to commemorate this achievement!

    It has been a joy and a blessing to serve the people here in Romania. I think I can speak for the whole team when I say that though our goal was to come here and encourage them, they encouraged us equally as much. 

Prayer Requests and praises:
- Praise God for all the work completed here. Many people heard the gospel
- Pray for all those at eyeglass clinic who heard the gospel. Pray for their salvation and that God would grow the planted seeds.
- Pray that the friendships we formed during this trip would not die out due to distance.
- Pray that we can still encourage one another even though we are not going to be together much longer.

Worship Service Sunday

    Today was a wonderful day of worshipping and fellowship! We began the day with a service at the church here in Ocna Şugatag, called Biserica Creştina Baptista. It was wonderful to intermix our team with theirs to create the service. John Mar did the Call to Prayer. Brianne, Paul, Gianna, and the local pastors daughter played some worship songs. Pastor Tom did the sermon. Alex translated everything from Romanian to English and vice-versa. We had a break for some lunch where we surprised Carole Bell with a birthday cake and songs, today was her birthday! It was also Teresa Chau's birthday on the day we flew here, June 19th. We were able to sing happy birthday to both of them! We then had a second worship service in a city about 30 minutes north called Sighetu Marmației. Hello from Romania!

          We successfully were able to catch our connecting flight in Munich, and we made it to Romania! Thank you all for praying for us! Praise God for his providence and going ahead of us to prepare the way!      We arrived in Cluj and got all of our checked bags, and then Alex and two others from the local church picked us up in some vans and we all had a lovely dinner just outside of Cluj. After dinner we drove three hours north to Ocna Sugatag and got settled in.
